Since its first edition in 1984, Imagine Fantastic Film Festival has grown from a small freaky film festival for students to a more intellectual conceptual film festival about our future. So how can we bring the fun and weirdness of science-fiction and horror back into the identity?

By embracing and celebrating weirdness. Weird can be anything, it is questioning the norms, distinguishing from the mainstream. The new positioning ‘Weird is Wonderful’ is an ode to the weird, and brings back the experimental, playful side of sci-fi, fantasy, anime and horror. Because even though Imagine’s film program can often be thought-provoking, in the first place it’s just fun and weird.

The creation
Weird happens when you add fantasy to something you already know. With this idea, we came up with an identity that plays with adding weirdness to something neutral. Visually, by adding an outspoken, colorful typographical layer to a standard typeface. Textually, by adding unexpected elements to otherwise normal messages.
