The context

LAB42 (named after the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything) is the latest addition to the UvA campus on Amsterdam Science park. In this brand new building, scientists, students and entrepreneurs will work together to shape the world’s future. LAB42 was looking for an identity of its own that still fits within the UvA brand. The idea

LAB42 has big ambitions and a very diverse range of focus fields – information science and technology have the potential to shape virtually every aspect of our lives. To bring all of that into one identity that still strokes with the UvA brand, we created a brand with a strong digital aesthetic, that can communicate many different themes in a coherent way.

With a small, but versatile image bank of icons, a strong colour palette, and various house style elements of the UvA, we developed a corporate identity, as well as a sales campaign to find companies and freelancers looking for an office or desk.
